In Retrospect

So to answer the question posed at the onset of this blog; yes, a forty-year friendship can indeed survive.

While imperfect at times—killing a few days in Punta Arenas is a challenge—it was a wonderful trip. Rather that exposing the darker side of each of the travelers, the trip simply made each person more like themselves. Rick was more like Rick, Detta was more like Detta, etc.

Far from threatening a forty-year friendship, the journey revealed why were friends in the first place. Like a laccolith, a friendship is a friendship, whether found in Torres del Paine, Patagonia or Barber Hill, Charlotte, VT.
